6-month-old dies after babysitter couldn't reach 911

6-month-old dies after babysitter couldn't reach 911

Ghost calls" to 911 from T-Mobile phones in Dallas are clogging the city's emergency dispatch system, the city said -- and a 6-month-old boy's mother blames the issue for her child's death.
Since November, when some T-Mobile customers have dialled 911 their phones have been spontaneously making multiple calls, clogging the system, city officials said.
Police are now investigating whether the issue led to the death of Brandon Alex on Saturday. His babysitter said that she dialed 911 multiple times without getting an answer. The 911 operators returned each of the babysitter's calls but could not reach her, city officials said.
"He was only 6 months," the boy's mother, Bridget Alex, told CNN affiliate KTVT. "It wasn't his time."
City officials confirmed the babysitter used a T-Mobile device. They said no other cell phone carriers seemed to be affected by the "ghost calls" issue.
T-Mobile did not respond to a CNN request for comment. T-Mobile CEO John Legere spoke with Dallas City manager T.C. Broadnax on Tuesday and said crews planned to work with the city until the issue was resolved, officials said.
Alex was attending a funeral when she received a call from her son's babysitter, she told KTVT. The sitter said that Brandon had fallen and was unconscious, but when she called 911, no one would answer.
"I just want y'all to tell me, why didn't you respond to my son? That's all I want to know," Alex said.
During that time, emergency operators received a surge in calls, city officials said in a statement. At one more than 400 calls came in, prompting them to bring in 10 additional call takers.
The boy's mother drove home and ended up rushing her son to the hospital, she said, finally getting him medical attention over an hour after the babysitter's first 911 call. The baby boy was transferred to a second Dallas-area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to city officials. The boy's cause of death remains undetermined, the Collin County medical examiner's office said.
"It is outrageous that T-Mobile still has not resolved the ghost call issue that is putting Dallasites in danger by clogging our 911 system," Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said in a statement.
While no other carriers appear to be experiencing the "ghost calls" issue, AT&T wireless customers also reported having trouble contacting 911 in Dallas and other Texas cities on March 8. Police departments posted alternative numbers to call in case of emergency. AT&T tweeted later that day that the issue had been resolved.

    The Most Famous Hollywood Couples

    The Most Famous Hollywood Couples

The only thing better than watching celebrity romances play out on-screen is seeing your favorite stars get together in real life. Even though celebrity relationships aren't known for their longevity, many fans feel nostalgia for several fleeting love affairs.
To honor the celebrity flames that tugged at our heartstrings the most, PrettyFamous, an entertainment data site by Graphiq, found the most famous Hollywood couples. In order to determine which celebrity pairs made the cut, PrettyFamous looked at married or divorced couples where least one member is a notable actor.
The couples were then ranked according to their combined Actor Scores. These are scores out of 100 that take into account the total IMDb votes for the TV shows and movies each person has appeared in, his or her Wikipedia page views over the past 30 days and the total number of award nominations he or she has received.
Ties between couples were broken by the difference between each member of a couple's individual Actor Score — the couple with the closest Actor Scores were ranked higher.
Out of 66 couples, about 27 are still married — a testament to the fleetingness of many relationships in Hollywood. The top eight couples with the most star power have divorced (or in "Brangelina's" case, in the middle of a divorce). The most popular celebrity couple still together is Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, whose 16-year marriage clocks in at number nine. Some celebrities also appear a couple times in different relationships, like Brad Pitt, Ashton Kutcher and Barbra Streisand, proving that as long as they're a part of a couple, their star power is probably enough for them and their significant other.
Note: Because recent Wikipedia page views are taken into consideration, the results tend to favor couples who are still popular now, or whose notoriety has stood the test of time. These couples are also all actors, so singers or other celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were not included.

Hollywood Royalty: The Most Famous Actors With Famous Parents

Hollywood Royalty: The Most Famous Actors With Famous Parents

For people on the outside, finding success in Hollywood can be a daunting task. While some stars manage to make it on their own, others approach the entertainment industry through their parents. For these celebrities, Hollywood is very much a family business.
PrettyFamous, an entertainment data site by Graphiq, found the most famous actors who also have famous parents. To create the ranking, the team ranked all actors and actresses on their Actor Score — a score out of 100 that takes into account the total number of IMDb votes for the TV shows and movies an actor has appeared in, the number of page views on the actor’s Wikipedia page over the past 30 days and the total number of award nominations an actor has received. Actors had to have at least 30,000 Wikipedia page views over the 30-day period to qualify.
The team then found actors who have a score of at least 20 and a parent with a score of 20 or higher. The ranking is ordered by the child’s Actor Score and ties are broken by the parent’s Actor Score. If a child has two parents with Actors Scores over 20, both are included.
In many Hollywood families, there is a wide gap between the fame of the parent and the child. Sometimes the child outshines the parent (Jennifer Aniston vs. John Aniston); and sometimes the star power of the parent is significantly greater (Clint Eastwood vs. Scott Eastwood).
There are, however, some rare cases where both the parent and child enjoy high levels of fame, cementing their status as Hollywood royalty. The top parent-child pair in this ranking has near-perfect Actor Scores and nearly 130 award nominations between them.

The Most Famous Actress the Same Age as You

The Most Famous Actress the Same Age as You

Celebrities often seem like ageless, other-worldly beings. But when you realize that some of your idols are the same age as you, it tends to bring them down to earth somewhat.
With this in mind, Pretty Famous, an entertainment site by Graphic, found the most famous actress the same age as you.
To create this list, Pretty Famous looked at actresses aged 14 to 94 (as of 10/4/2016). Within each age group, Pretty Famous determined the most famous actress by looking at her "Actress Score." This is a score out of 100 that takes into account the total number of IMDb ratings for the TV shows and movies each actress has appeared in, her Wikipedia page views over the past 30 days and the total number of award nominations she has received.
Note: Because recent Wikipedia page views are taken into consideration, the results tend to actresses who are popular now, or whose fame has stood the test of time.

Mediterranean diet linked to lower risk of breast cancer type, study says

Mediterranean diet linked to lower risk of breast cancer type, study says

The study, which was conducted in the Netherlands, followed 62,573 women ages 55 to 69 who tracked their diets for more than 20 years starting in 1986 as part of a cohort study. During the study, 3,354 participants developed breast cancer. After excluding cases based on a history of cancer or incomplete dietary data, research analyzed 2,321 breast cancer cases.
The researchers found that post-menopausal estrogen-receptor-negative breast cancer was 40% less prevalent in those who adhered closely to the Mediterranean diet. The Mediterranean diet emphasizes eating mostly plant-based foods, such as fruits, legumes, unrefined grains and olive oil, as well as fish. Traditionally, the diet allows for small amounts of wine consumption, but because there is a known link between alcohol and breast cancer, it was excluded from this study.
Many interpretations of the diet have been developed, but for this study, following the guidelines of the Mediterranean diet strictly was key.
